let's rock out at 10:30 am

It's 9am, and I have exactly 90 minutes until I have to start rocking out. 10:30 is the only available time that the five of us could meet. That's how it works in B-school - everyone's schedules are so packed you start doing very perversive things - playing rock n' roll at before 12 and studying after happy hour. we do what we must.

Ooh, I love my view from my window this year. I have a lovely balcony that overlooks the backyard and houses on the opposing row are screened adequately by trees so you just don't feel someone's looking right back at you. Ollie and I spend a lot of time looking out the window at the jungle 50 yards out. Today's even a sunny day so it's pretty striking.

Ever since I graduated from Vassar in 2001 I've been quite scared of "making it" but the fear has been recently subsided what with the acquisition of the new job. I think my story is a little different than most: I was making less than $30k entering B-school, and used to living on even less. My mindset is still to return the crappy necklace I bought at Walmart for $11. The concept of having enough to live on, saving, and contributing to retirement is sort of beyond me still. I feel like I took a fast track from Target to the Coach store. echhh. There is a course here taught by a "luminary" (CK Prahalad) who tells you that the business opportunities at the so-called bottom of the pyramid are huge and not to forget the little people. I was NEVER poor like those he's referring to, or even close, but having a brush with hard bottom of the barrel makes you mindful of what you have and what "it" could be like. So BOP (base of the pyramid) strategy, for me, is not a revelation, just a well-articulated point of view to explain to B-school students who've been in the lap of luxury too long. I guess it's still good we all learned about it together.
