First day in the loop

I started my internship at Apple today. We spent the first half of the day in boring HR training and then were off to lunch with our respective managers. I will be working with a great guy on a terrific project and am really looking forward to getting started. Apple's a big company that behaves like a small one, which suits me just fine. Typical dress includes jeans and t-shirts, and people work hard but seem to enjoy themselves. I am part of a huge wave of summer interns (300 in all) from colleges and master's programs throughout the country.

A couple of noteworthy observations:

- I saw Steve Jobs at lunch, in fact he was sitting right near me out on the patio. People treat him like a celebrity even within Apple, which I found sort of amusing
- Apple is big about security and we are not to talk to anyone about what we're doing (hence my vague description above)
- My MBA is working for me already! My project will definitely push me to use a lot of my newfound skills that I've acquired at Ross. Woohoo!

Also worth mentioning is that I finally picked Ollie from the vet (he was there since last Thursday - poor guy) and he is doing just fine, despite his infection and trauma from moving across the country in a car. He's a great cat. Here's Ollie looking pissed because he's shaved...
