blog entry in 4 minutes...go!

okay, so I'm in Chicago for the weekend and enjoying the nooks and crannys of the city. I'm staying in Bucktown, in a Michigan MBA 2005 bachelor pad, which is very "cool" but not very functional. Therefore, today's entry is:

Top 10 Things to Watch Out for when Purchasing Your First Bachelor Pad:

1. Easy to Clean. C'mon, you know you won't be cleaning it yourself, and you don't want some random person looking through your Maxims and other...uh...stuff...so make it easy to clean yourself.

2. Private. Many a night you'll find yourself coming home at 2am, and you'll need your privacy, from the neighbors AND any potential roommate. Doors and walls are KEY.

3. 99% Complete. Yeah, sure you have lofty goals of refinishing the floors and adding window treatments, but between your new hotshot job and going out, you won't have much time to pursue crafty projects.

4. Easy to Ventilate. So, sometimes you won't take out the garbage for awhile, so who cares? You will when you come home with your hot date. You'll want open windows to = that fresh clean smell.

5. Views. First impressions matter, so make sure you have some good views from your bird's nest.

6. Working electrical/sound system that's Low Maintenance. See #3 for more detail.

7. Laundry in-house, preferably next to the bedroom. You don't have time for laundry. You'll rarely do it. Make it easy on yourself.

8. A Grill and Other Recreational Props. Examples: foosball table, pool table, turntables, shuffleboard, etc. Yeah, cool.

9. Ability to block out the sunlight. Avoid skylights, which can prevent your ability to make it dark when you need to sleep.

10. Don't live next to the elevated train. It's really really friggin' loud. And it runs all night. And it shakes the apartment. Trust me.

Have a great 4th weekend!
